The FoC UK Charity Draw Event took place on 4 June 2021 at the High Commission of Sri Lanka in London.
Her Excellency Mrs Saroja Sirisena, High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to the United Kingdom, graced the occasion with her presence. Also in attendance were members of the FOC Executive Committee and staff from the Sri Lanka High Commission.
The event commenced at 7.00 pm with a welcome address from the FOC Media Chairman, who thanked the High Commissioner for hosting the event at the High Commission and for her continued support. He also expressed appreciation to all attendees for their presence.
In his address, he provided an overview of the history of the Festival of Cricket and its current activities. He highlighted FOC’s timely donation of medical supplies, including infusions and inhalers, to the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH) in Sri Lanka in late 2020, made at a critical time during the COVID-19 pandemic to support patient care and save lives. He also referenced additional donations made to other beneficiary charities. He concluded by thanking all those who purchased raffle tickets and contributed prizes.
Her Excellency Mrs Sirisena welcomed FOC members to the High Commission and acknowledged the organisation’s valuable contribution over many years in strengthening cohesion within the Sri Lankan community in the United Kingdom. She also recognised FOC’s role in providing an annual platform for the community to come together socially through sport and shared experiences.
For the main event, Her Excellency drew the winning ticket for the first prize, while the remaining prizes were drawn by selected members of the FOC and High Commission staff.
The evening concluded with the official launch of the new FOC website, which Her Excellency inaugurated at the request of the organisers. Guests then enjoyed informal networking and the opportunity to meet and greet the High Commissioner.
